Calderdale Reading Revolution
We are delighted to share with you that we are part of the Calderdale Reading Revolution which means New Road, along with other Calderdale schools, are working together on the project led by The Great Heights English Hub at The Greetland Academy.
By joining the Reading Revolution we are demonstrating just how much we value reading and we want and believe that every child in Calderdale can be a reader for life.
New Road is a committed and ambitious school and we pledge to immerse our children in a positive culture of reading, where a love of reading is nurtured to inspire readers for life.
We are leading on this during our Family Learning sessions that now incorporate and link the class books into the activities that children and family members enjoy together.
All our children are eager and proud when they achieve their Reading Badges at all four stages: Bronze, Silver, Gold and Bookworm which we celebrate together during our Friday Celebration Assembly.
Our termly Book Club is a huge success with children coming together with Mr McGrath to discuss and share with others the books they have read that term. The children talk passionately and can articulate well reasons why others should read their recommendations.
The whole school Book Swap was a fantastic way for everyone to celebrate our enjoyment and love of books and I look forward to many more experiences and activities in school that promote a love and enthusiasm for reading in our children.
