Welcome Message
Here at New Road Primary School, alongside the academic education of our children, we are passionate about providing an environment that promotes positive wellbeing for all our pupils, staff and families.
It is well researched that links between getting active physically, supports and improves mental wellbeing. Our aim and vision at New Road is to create Active Learners where our children are engaged in their learning and enjoy all the physical aspects of their education.
At New Road we promote opportunities to take teaching and learning outside of the classroom with our weekly Bushcraft sessions. Tasks help the children develop problem solving and reasoning skills along with building and strengthening their resilience and independence.
We organize three ‘Wellbeing Weeks’ during the academic year so our children understand the importance of looking after themselves in different ways, including their mental health. Pupils particularly enjoy the mindfulness sessions and participating in child friendly Yoga classes.
Our ongoing commitment was recognized when New Road Primary School won The Active School Award for West Yorkshire. It was a very proud moment for all our pupils, staff and families, which celebrated the hard work and dedication from all the team.
Our vision and aim is to continue to promote active lifestyles, utilizing the support from Yorkshire Sport and Active Calderdale to further strengthen and improve on what we are already currently doing at New Road.
We welcome and relish opportunities to share what we are doing at New Road, so please get in touch if you’d like to learn more about us or visit our wonderful school.
Mrs S Harwood, Headteacher.
